Anxiety



Let’s talk about a word with which we are all too familiar: anxiety!


Defined as: "Apprehensive uneasiness or nervousness usually over an impending or anticipated ill: a state of being."


I just call it "that shitty way to live feeling."


We all struggle with anxiety in some capacity, and it can be very debilitating. Anxiety leads to a multitude of problems including insomnia, headaches, and self-destructive tendencies.



Anxiety in itself is kind of funny. We let ourselves get worked up, stressed out, have panic attacks, and for many of us, even slip into a depressed state all over something that has not happened yet. That's kind of crazy right?


Really think about that. We feel anxious about something that has not yet taken place.


At times I never knew what was worse, my anxiety or my depression.


Looking back, I think the anxiety I was feeling was truly going to eat me alive and kill me. And that, my friend, is no way to live! Whereas, my depression just left me feeling unmotivated and already dead inside.



I remember sitting down with my doctor and hearing him tell me that he will give me something to help me cope. "Wow...cope" I thought.


I don't know about you, but I wasn't exactly excited about just coping with something. I wanted it gone!


So on the advice of my doctor, I entered the world of medicating away my anxiety and depression.


The crazy thing was the meds would work for a while and my mind would clear, then they would stop working and I would come crashing down. All my doctor would do was constantly change my prescriptions (and this went on for years).



So, I started looking for a permanent fix...NOT A WAY TO JUST COPE!


I'm happy to say that there is a fix that does exist.


It has now been several years medication free! Wooo...what a great feeling.


Don't get me wrong, every now and then I still get that uneasy feeling creep in, but I have learned certain techniques to absolutely crush that feeling dead in its tracks.



There are many techniques I use, but let’s focus on a few healthy practices that you can implement into your life today to eliminate some of your anxiety.


The very first thing I do:

ACCEPT THE THINGS I CANNOT CHANGE!

I find writing down as many things as I can that I have absolutely no control over helps. This allows me to be more conscious about them.


Second:

MINDFUL MEDITATION.

This allows me to change what I'm focusing on. Done properly, it's like changing the channel to whatever you want to watch. Which in turn allows me to see the reality in its truest form.


Third:

CHANGE MY PHYSIOLOGY.

I get up and move, stand straighter with shoulders back, or I exercise. It's amazing what a simple walk in nature can do to change your state.




These, of course, are only a few of the many techniques that I have learned to master in order to change my state.


Keep this in mind: If you can learn to change the state you're in...everything changes!
